Fed: Beazley tells caucus to get behind Rudd =2

Mr Beazley did not immediately announce the death of his brother.

He said he told caucus today that the party needed to get behind Mr Rudd and give him
the best possible chance to win the next federal election.

"Kevin is a very able man, a very intelligent man with a very wide base of knowledge
and a determination to do the right thing for the Australian people," Mr Beazley said.

"He will be a very good leader of the Australian Labor Party, he will take us to victory
at the next election.

"I wanted to stay and finish the job but that was not to be.

"We will win the next election," he said.

Mr Beazley said the public mood had changed.
