It's unclear whether directors and officers liability insurance would cover corporate officers sued over global warming issues.

Most D&O policies contain broad pollution exclusions, which several experts say would apply if directors and officers were sued for failing to disclose their business' climate change risks.

Many of those policies, however, provide an exception to the pollution exclusion for nonindemnifiable losses, which could include derivative suits filed in most U.S. states, experts say.
