QLD: Little ray of sunshine in the shape of Arnie saves Cadd
A local hero plucked seventies rocker and song writer BRIAN CADD from a flooded Gold Coast
creek last night after the torrent washed his car off a causeway.
DAVID STUBBS heard screams of alarm and braved the floodwaters to drag Mr CADD and his
partner LINDA NEWMAN to the bank.
LINDA'S 16-year-old daughter LAUREN raised the alarm after getting herself to safety.
Mr CADD said the local hero, who was built like ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, saved their lives.
The trio's brush with death came when their vehicle was washed into Bonogin Creek after
they tried to cross the flooded causeway at Mudgeeraba.
Mr CADD, 52, who penned the hits A Little Ray of Sunshine and Ginger Man in the '70s, said
they managed to squeeze out of the car before it sank.
He says the trio were swept downstream, but Lauren manged to swim to safety while he held
onto a branch.
31-year-old Mr STUBBS, who denies being a hero, says he had heard LAUREN'S screams for help
while he was watching television.
He says he found Mr CADD first and swam out into the swollen creek and dragged him to
safety, and then braved the torrent again to rescue LINDA who was further downstream.
He says he was surprised later when he learnt who he'd saved.
