A U.S.-British citizen who spent 20 years on Ohio's death row was taken to the hospital Thursday hours before he was expected to enter a plea that would have given him his freedom, authorities said.
Scotsman Ken Richey, 43, was to plead no contest to attempted involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and breaking and entering and be sentenced to time already served in the 1986 death of a toddler in an Ohio apartment fire, his lawyer Ken Parsigian said.
Parsigian said the court hearing was postponed because Richey was getting a heart catheter, but he was unsure what his medical condition was.
